When the digital procedure is available
A digital divorce by mutual consent requires a shared decision to dissolve the marriage and agreement on the text submitted through the platform. It is not a procedure for resolving a unilateral dispute; where consent is absent, a different legal route must be considered.
The participants are the two spouses, a different lawyer for each spouse and a notary. The spouses and notary authenticate with Taxisnet credentials, while the lawyers use the credentials of the Greek Bar Associations' Plenary portal.
What must be agreed
The lawyers prepare the private agreement dissolving the marriage. Where there are minor children, the agreement must address the allocation of parental responsibility, custody and residence, contact with the other parent and child maintenance.
The terms should be clear and workable. General wording concerning children may create further conflict later, while property matters or other outstanding issues should be considered separately and should not be assumed to be resolved automatically by the divorce.
The online steps
One lawyer creates the case and enters the marriage registration details, final draft agreement, selected notary and the other spouse's lawyer. The second lawyer reviews and confirms the information and the text.
The spouses then sign in with Taxisnet and approve the agreement. Once both have approved it, the ten-day period under Article 1441 of the Greek Civil Code begins. After that period, the notary prepares and finalises the notarial deed dissolving the marriage.

Completion and practical points
Once finalised, the notarial deed is sent to the spouses' digital gov.gr inboxes and the Citizens Registry is updated. If the marriage was religious, the separate religious dissolution process must also be completed.
For marriages celebrated before 2013, prior contact with the relevant registry office may be necessary so that the marriage record is entered in the Citizens Registry. If the online case remains inactive for the prescribed period, it may be cancelled and the process may need to start again.
